Donor Wall & Plate Layout Calculator
Add your current donor plates to the future plates you want to reserve, then compare that with rows times columns. The Donor Wall Studio calculator shows how many slots are left open or how many are missing. It counts positions only. Plate size, gaps, headers and usable wall area still need a measured drawing.

The decision behind a donor recognition display
A donation record is not automatically a publishable inscription. Confirm recognition preferences, household or organization grouping and any anonymous listings first. Reserved future positions belong in the layout calculation; they become manufactured plates only when the order actually includes them.
Keep with your brief: Approved recognition name, tier, plate position and future expansion plan.

Reserve space for the next campaign stage
Plan 30 current donor plates and 12 future positions in a layout with six rows and eight columns. The example counts positions; it does not establish a board size.
- Current donor plates
- 30
- Reserved future plates
- 12
- Planned rows
- 6
- Planned columns
- 8
Calculated example result
42 plates planned (30 current + 12 reserved). 48 layout slots. 6 unassigned slots remain. Physical dimensions and mounting require a measured layout.

Needed slots = current plates + reserved plates; planned slots = rows × columns
The example needs 42 positions and provides 48 slots, leaving six unassigned. That does not mean 48 finished plates must be manufactured now. Agree separately whether future positions remain empty, contain blank inserts or receive another treatment in the initial design.
Will a six-row grid hold sixty plates?
A YMCA branch has 42 approved names and wants to reserve 18 positions for a second campaign phase. That makes 60 plates planned. The facilities lead thinks the wall can take six rows. The membership director enters 42 current, 18 reserved, 6 rows and 9 columns. Six times nine is 54, so the calculator reports that 6 more slots are needed. She changes the columns to 10 and gets 60 slots with none left unassigned. That is a tight fit, so she tries 11 columns: 66 slots, with 6 open. She sends both grids to Donor Wall Studio and asks which one the measured wall width allows with the Perpetual Donor Wall System.
Check these details before using the result
- Reserving nothing for later gifts
- A wall that is full on opening day has no place for the next gift. Enter a reserve figure, even a small one.
- Forgetting rows taken by headings
- If group titles sit inside the grid, they use slots. Add them to current plates or plan them outside the grid.
- Trusting the grid without measuring
- Slots are not inches. Have the wall's clear width and height measured before treating any grid as buildable.

Map the first group of names and the likely expansion before choosing the overall width. Decide whether new gifts add a leaf, replace an entry or move a donor to another tier so the design can grow coherently.

Individual Donor Recognition Plaque
Ask how the donor wants to be identified publicly, including family names, joint gifts and anonymity. A project-specific thank-you often communicates the gift's purpose without publishing an amount or implying a result you have not documented.

Donor Wall Engraved Plates
For an addition, provide the dimensions and a straight-on photograph of an existing plate. Match the actual mounting and spacing requirements as well as the wording; a similar-looking plate may not fit the current system.

Capital Campaign Recognition Board
Agree on tier order, name sorting and recognition rules before design. Long organization names and family listings need room, so use the real approved list to choose the board size instead of designing around placeholder names.

Room & Facility Naming Plaque
Confirm the exact naming agreement before creating the inscription. A donor recognition, a memorial dedication and an official room name have different meanings, and the plaque should preserve the wording the organization has approved.

How many future positions should a donor wall reserve?
There is no standard figure, and the calculator does not suggest one. Base it on pledges still open, the campaigns you expect to run and how long the wall should serve. Some organizations reserve by level, with fewer open positions at the top. Enter the total and test whether your wall can hold it.
Does an open slot mean a blank plate is ordered?
No. The reserved figure is a planning number for the layout. A blank filler plate is a real piece you may choose to order so the wall looks complete. If you want fillers, count them in the quantity calculator and list them on the quote request as their own line.
What if the donor names do not fill complete rows?
That is normal. Decide where the open positions sit: at the end of each giving level, or together at the bottom. Open positions inside each level let new donors join the right group without moving plates. The drawing from Donor Wall Studio shows the arrangement before you approve it.

All buying guidesFor worldwide Donor Wall Studio orders, compare donor-name panels against the lobby’s real background and lighting before choosing brushed metal or clear acrylic. Transparency, printed backing and surface finish can change the proposed appearance. Ask for a representative name-field sample in the intended setting rather than treating a clean catalog rendering as a readability test.
For worldwide Donor Wall Studio orders, brief the donor wall with a measured display area, component dimensions, gaps and a position map for the installer. A row-and-column count establishes capacity only. Keep the overall wall, proposed arrangement and attachment decisions distinct so the final handoff describes the actual installation location.

For worldwide Donor Wall Studio orders, count approved donor names, reserved positions and physical blank fillers separately. A vacant slot is space, while a filler is an ordered component. Decide which unused positions receive blanks now, which remain open and whether any additional stock has an approved later use.
